What to Pack
A quick guide to help students arrive prepared and comfortable for camp.
Things to Pack
  • Laptop computer and charger (strongly recommended) If you're not able to bring a laptop, please let us know as soon as possible.
  • Cell phone (strongly recommended) We need to be able to contact students 24/7.
  • Spending money (or ATM card) For the free day on the weekend, or snacks/non-cafeteria food.
  • Athletic shoes (for walking around campus)
  • Sweatshirt or light jacket (it does get cool at night)
  • Personal care and toiletry items
  • Unlined paper (for flowing)
  • Pens
  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen
Do NOT Pack
Students should not bring anything that would be inappropriate or illegal on a high school campus or at a forensics competition. This includes:
  • Alcohol
  • Illegal drugs
  • Vape pens
  • Large amounts of money
  • Sharp objects (e.g. knives, Swiss Army knives, scissors, razors, etc.)
  • Valuables (e.g. cherished jewelry)
  • Firearms
No formal attire: Students should not pack dress or formal attire. Don't bring tournament clothes to camp — we want you to be comfortable at all times.

Optional Items
  • Laundry detergent Students will have access to laundry facilities.
  • Umbrella
  • Flip flops or sandals (for showers)
  • Additional linens A basic linen package (pillow, sheets, blanket, towel) is provided, but students may bring extra items for added comfort.

Medications

Students can either self-administer and store their own prescriptions, or have them stored in the VBI office. A refrigerator is available if necessary.

If a student will be bringing medication(s), parents should indicate on the medical form how the medication(s) ought to be stored.
